LA Fashion Week Here I Come! And It’s The Show For The Tiniest Fashionista I’m Looking Forward to the Most!

For those of you lucky fashionistas fortunate enough to attend the pre-ceremonies, I am emerald green with envy. While those of begin striking your poses in front of sponsor created backdrops, I’m sitting here on a Saturday night munching on Halloween Oreos, researching the excitement to come.

While I’m suuuuper bummed I won’t be able to make it to Michael Costello’s runway event tomorrow, I am looking forward to being introduced to new designers. One label being featured at this season’s “Style Week” is Dollcake, a name that caters to the tiniest princess.

If I was 7, I don’t think I would have wanted to dress in anything else! From the ruffles and the potential twirl factor, these princess perfect creations make me realize I’m so lucky I don’t have a little girl (right now.) Because if I did I’d need everything. In pink. With lots and lots of ruffles. The brain child for this stunning collection, Christina Campbell is absolutely right. “The ingredients for inspired girlswear are to be found in decades long gone.”

Ugh, is it Tuesday yet?

On Top Of The World In Matador Colors

On Top Of The World In Matador Colors

It is extremely rare, double emphasis on extremely that I represent my High School colors. I was never a cheer leader, nor did I really want to be. I only went to a handful of football games and have less than fond memories sitting on the bleachers…in the rain. I never really understood the hype. I was genuinely the kind of student who enjoyed going to school to GASP, LEARN!

Nonetheless, now that I’ve moved on from my home town of La Mirada, I had to make a stop on my way home from LA the other day. I pulled over to the In N Out located just off the 5 Freeway, and didn’t realize how home sick I was until I walked in and the tiny little restraunt was filled with my alma mater colors. The color scheme that once made me gag at the sight of, almost brought tears to my eyes. La Mirada folk are truly one of a kind. We may have a reputation for being a bit, off. But we mean well and looking back now I would not have chosen to grow up in any other city.

Personally I think these colors actually go really well together. I’d choose royal blue paired with yellow any day! Plus yellow looks dramatically better on leather pants than a tight mini skirt or a hand made scrunchy any day.

First investment for the Fall weather, LEATHER PANTS! And I opted away from the more traditional "black leather." Yellow is more bright, and full of life. Yellow, is more me, "just Jess."

My boyfriend said I need to get rid of the hat. But number 1 it covers my roots, and number 2 since as long as I can remember I've had a signature hat. This is my signature hat for this phase of my life.

So whilst I scour my brain and try to remember where it was exactly I left my umbrella, the time has arrived where I officially have to dig through the closet for my warmer shirts. And coats! And scarves! And BOOTS! When I was younger I used to hate rainy cold weather. While I still prefer warmer weather, now that I’m older I can appreciate the cold. Before cold days meant ugly jackets and frizzy hair. Now Fall means layers and layers of couture!

Sorry Pumpkin Spice Latte’s, you have been replaced as my new season favorite with accessories. There’s just more to love and less calories. Plus there’s no generic knock off at McDonalds. Eww.

So I Found This Totally Cool Cape…

So I Found This Totally Cool Cape...

Top: Splendid Sweater: Brandy Melville Black Leather Shorts: Planet Funk Ankle Booties: 5/48

Ok, so it’s not a cape. It’s not even a robe. But I’m not going to lie, when I found this amazing oversized sweater, it reminded me so much of a Harry Potter robe I couldn’t pass it up. Yes, I’m a book nerd to that extent. And proud of it.

And it’s the instant wow factor to improve upon any outfit. I just got back from the nail salon where they were trying to keep the place cool with a bunch of fans. Without intending to go for a dramatic affect I just happened to walk by a few of these, and let’s just say I made an impression. “I wish I had my camera cause’ you look so beautiful” said one of the nail technicians. She was a sweet gal.

Although I’m not quite sure how I feel about wearing a piece like this in the wind, as it is reeeeaaally long, and with my clumsiness only increases the likelihood that I will fall flat on my rear or my face. Either option does not sound appealing. I once almost fell off the stage during graduation. Oh ya, college graduation. No big deal. It’s not like there were thousands of people watching at that very second when I almost had my Lizzie McGuire moment. Oh that’s right, there were. And my sisters are kind enough to remind me they have it on film. Lesson learned that moment, always take safety into consideration when deciding on an outfit.

I love when pieces exude drama. This piece is such a drama queen on windy days.

Fall Means Fun Accessories

Fall Means Fun Accessories

Top: Helmut Lang Headband: Saks Boots: Joie Necklace: House of Harlow

It’s hard to accessorize during the Summer when it’s 110 degrees outside and you’re trying to downsize and wear as little as possible without having to sacrifice your integrity or reputation of not looking trashy. Alas, thank you fashion gods for oversized sunglasses and large brimmed hats. Oh and one of the best things about the Fall season is I can FINALLY go outside wearing all black without feeling like I’m melting!

But now it’s fall and time to embrace all accessories! From necklaces, to scarves, and headbands which actually work all year round. I’m so beyond exciting to start layering! And while typically I love my labels I’ve been finding a ridiculous amount of good fall pieces at little boutiques throughout Orange County. While I have yet to blog about my stellar finds, I must say a fashionista on a budget need not look far to find season must haves and So. Cal classics.

Stay tuned fashionistas!

Today I Stumbled Upon OC Style Week And Ended Up At The Beach

Today I Stumbled Upon OC Style Week And Ended Up At The Beach

Outfit: Top Nanette Lepore Shorts: 7 For All Mankind Sunglasses: Chloe

I am a proud OC girl just as much as Summer Roberts. But sadly when it comes to devoting a whole week to all things OC Fashion, OC needs to step up their game. Don’t get me wrong, I know some amazing talented fashionistas in the region who live and breathe couture and who are thoroughly committed to bringing attention to how fab this lifestyle really is. And I’ve seen them put together stellar fashion productions. And yet the only memo I got regarding this was a teeny tiny little flyer I came across when I went to Fashion Island today.

Only a handful of stores were participating in the event, and when I walked in these stores were less then helpful in offering information. The only thing I knew for certain was Brandy Melville was closing promptly at 7 PM, due to a private event. Apparently private events mean customer service fails to exist for actual customers shopping prior to the event.

Finally, I’d had enough. There were not going to be any runways shows, style experts but rather pop up shops. Great! So select merchandise from participating vendors were going to be scattered across the mall? Yawn.

Alas, I figured I could stay and succumb to a lackluster attempt at “Style Week” or I could make a mad dash to the beach and enjoy a beautiful sunset. And talk about the best decision I’ve made all week! Nothing says OC quite like a serene sunset at Crystal Cove.

Friendly tip, don’t ever ask Suri for directions to Crystal Cove. I should have known better and at the end of the day I decided to trust what I know and follow the signs on PCH. If you leave it to Suri she might direct you to a boat destined for Catalina.

Gotta love slouchy sweaters.

Facing the Music, and A Modern Tale of Survival by Nick Carter

Facing the Music, and A Modern Tale of Survival by Nick Carter

Yup, another successful Backstreet Adventure with my Backstreet Bestie in the books. So we are not 12-years old any more. Annnnd your point?

Let’s be honest, I was probably just as excited Friday morning as I would have been had I been 12 and my parents picked me up and said I was going to see my favorite boy bander Nick Carter. I may or may not have fan girl squealed at some point that day, you may never know. In the event you are not a twenty bopper or ever had the pleasure of meeting someone whose image was once plastered on your wall at one point in time, it is basically the equivalent of meeting Santa Claus for the first time and comprehending the awesomeness of that moment. If you have no idea what that moment is like, then I feel sorry for you.

Just like Santa, I thought long and hard about what I was going to ask him. After all, I do run this little thing called a fashion blog and how awesome would it have been to ask him something fashion related? Totally awesome right? But then, the fun suckers over at Barnes and Nobles, well, sucked the fun out of that idea and basically said no pictures, just an autograph and move on with your life.

If I had not already met Nick at least 2 times prior I probably would have been upset. But gazing into his beautiful blue eyes and all worries just seem to disappear. While I missed an opportunity for a fab Instagram photo, and what I could only assume would have been a short and sweet answer of a fashion related question, I opted to utilize my two seconds and ask him how it felt to have a published book. After all, I hope to one day have my own book published and any advise from a published author would be appreciated. Clearly he was in the zone because he looked up at me kind of puzzled and shook his head. You mean I didn’t tell him how much I’ve loved him since I was 11? I have never told him that. Strangely previous encounters involve me asking him how Aaron is doing. I just saw him a few months back though and he looked great so no need waste a question.

“What was the question?” Nick Carter responded. (O-M-G, I have Nick’s attention I thought. Keep calm I tried to Jedi mind trick myself.) I then asked how he felt when the book finally got published. He starting muttering about the process and then I interjected, “accomplished?”

“Yes”, was his response. Panicked because the Barnes and Noble chaperon was clearly getting nervous and made me feel like my 2 seconds expired 5 seconds before I even walked up, I quickly told him I was proud of him. Not that Nick Carter needs my approval for anything, but he smiled a smile that smile I’ve loved since “As Long As You Love Me”, my heart melted and basically me and my BFF drove home on a cloud.

His book, from what I’ve read is amazing. It’s a heartfelt, soul bearing “here I am world despite my flaws” kind of tale and naturally I love it. Granted he could have written the dictionary and I probably would have reported back that it was the best dictionary I’ve ever read cover to cover, but as someone who is not perfect either, I appreciate his honesty and attempt to share his positive outlook on life with the world.

Really and truly Nick, I am proud of you.
