First and foremost my sincerest apologies for taking a brief unannounced absence from blogging. So much has been happening in the past couple weeks, I actually haven’t’ had time to stop and smell the roses or take pictures in my fabulous outfits.
What has been taking up my time you may be wondering? Well, there’s always work. I got a new promotion and I’ll be working in San Diego soon! Hooray for being relocated back to the beach! Thank God! Casual beachwear is more my style anyways. And yes I’ve already picked out a handful of swimsuits as my daily uniform…(oh ya, except for when I’ll be working which will be at least 40 hours.) Also, I’ve recently invested in Disneyland Pass. Which has been years in the making. For awhile I was mad at Disneyland for the whole Libby Lu thing, but I’ve decided to find it in my heart to forgive them. And just in the nick of time too! Because two weeks ago, while sipping on magical star martinis, overlooking Paradise Pier in California Adventure, my best friend asked me to be a bridesmaid! I love everyday fashion but I also hold a special place in my heart for bridal fashion. For obvious reasons I can’t say much on her choice of dress but she looks stunning and classic and I could probably go on for at least another paragraph or so, but all I can say is that her fiancé is one lucky man! Not even Walt Disney could imagine a princess who was ever so beautiful!
While she has found her dress, us bridesmaids are on the mission to find ours. I love wearing dresses on a daily basis, but formal gowns shockingly have never really been my thing. Too much taffeta and I have a fear of looking back years later and looking like a tragic 80’s prom queen of a mess. Alas, I still have a few months to decide on just the right outfit to compliment my BFF! So be patient fellow readers, I promise to update you when I can but needless to say I have a lot of fashion to look forward to this year! Theres the wedding and then that pesky 10 year High School Reunion to dress for. To invest in a cocktail dress or Stella Mcartney suit? Decisions. Decisions.
Stop in the name of love for Valentino studded shoes.
Some things just go naturally together. Peanut butter and jelly. Pink and purple. Macaroni and cheese. And a button up and jeans. I’ve been obsessed with Equipment lately, a brand that specializes in menswear for women, specifically button downs. While initially I did not see a need for more than one in my closet, I’ve become obsessed! And this obsession has only been fueled by recent markdowns at my store recently. A silk button down that originally retails for roughly $200, for $35 (after employee discount of course) how could I resist. So consider this a disclaimer for posts to come, I now am the proud owner of the classic Equipment silk button down in powder blue, baby pink, white, grey, and red. And I need more! Orange, green, purple, navy! You never know when you’re going to come across a pair of shoes that would pair perfect with a button down of a particular color! These are ambitions a pro fashionista needs to foresee and prepare for especially when the price is right!
Love my statement necklaces. This one is from J Crew.
While initially I believed button downs to be stuffy and boring, they can actually prove to be quite fun with the right accessories. And I think that’s why I’ve begun this love affair. Not only do they look chic, but to me they’re like a blank canvas ready to be painted with pretty accessories!
It is extremely rare, double emphasis on extremely that I represent my High School colors. I was never a cheer leader, nor did I really want to be. I only went to a handful of football games and have less than fond memories sitting on the bleachers…in the rain. I never really understood the hype. I was genuinely the kind of student who enjoyed going to school to GASP, LEARN!
Nonetheless, now that I’ve moved on from my home town of La Mirada, I had to make a stop on my way home from LA the other day. I pulled over to the In N Out located just off the 5 Freeway, and didn’t realize how home sick I was until I walked in and the tiny little restraunt was filled with my alma mater colors. The color scheme that once made me gag at the sight of, almost brought tears to my eyes. La Mirada folk are truly one of a kind. We may have a reputation for being a bit, off. But we mean well and looking back now I would not have chosen to grow up in any other city.
Personally I think these colors actually go really well together. I’d choose royal blue paired with yellow any day! Plus yellow looks dramatically better on leather pants than a tight mini skirt or a hand made scrunchy any day.
First investment for the Fall weather, LEATHER PANTS! And I opted away from the more traditional “black leather.” Yellow is more bright, and full of life. Yellow, is more me, “just Jess.”
My boyfriend said I need to get rid of the hat. But number 1 it covers my roots, and number 2 since as long as I can remember I’ve had a signature hat. This is my signature hat for this phase of my life.
I’m like totes going through a Free People phase. Free People is a vendor that I feel paired with different pieces truly can be dressed up or dressed down. Some things can be dressed down to the point you look that a homeless hippie in the cutest of ways. Other occasions you can rock a chic girly look that would make even Taylor Swift jelly.
The last time I wore this outfit I went to the nail salon and a fellow patron said I reminded her of a little porcelain Portuguese doll, whatever that means, but she made it sound like a compliment so thanks again kind lady!

I don’t care what anyone says, there is something magical about Melrose. Once you get past the graffiti and the grunge there are some pretty awesome places to check out. Since I went right before Coachella, of course there were some pretty awesome pop up vintage shops that boasted some fabulous vintage designer pieces exclusively made for stores like Neiman Marcus and Saks. Eventually I made it past the vintage and into a fabulous little place called Fred Segal.
While at first it reminded me of Kitson, the cute little boutique that in my opinion reminds me of a high end graphic tee boutique, amongst other every day necessities, Fred Segal has this amazing mini shoe department called “Happy Feet.” And to be quite honest my feet have not been that happy to try on a pair of shoes since the last time I bought a pair of Christian Louboutins!
At first glance it seems as though their primary vendor is Prada. However, one of the uber friendly sales associates made it a point to direct me to a new label that I was not familiar with called Corte A.S. 98. And what she showed me were a pair of versatile ankle booties/sneakers, that had both a chic and urban appeal. I was told celebrity fans of the collection include Britney Spears, Megan Fox and Jennifer Aniston, just to name a few. I exclaimed to the sales associate that she had me sold at Britney Spears has some!
The manager also came over to introduce herself to explain she wore the same shoes I was trying on to Paris Fashion Week! Britney and Paris Fashion Week? Needless to say the shoes were on my feet in a matter of minutes! And surprisingly looked really cute despite the fact that I was wearing white lace shorts, and a white silk tank top. Who would have though that an outfit so feminine could look so good with leather ankle booties. Granted by itself, would have looked rather funky, but as my friend pointed out, with a black leather jacket would be complete.
While I typically do not think of leather ankle booties as a summer staple, apparently other designers do. Shortly after my stop at Fred Segal, I also stopped in to check out the shoe collections at Barney’s and Saks in Beverly Hills where on the shelves Chloe and Giuseppe Zanotti also had a sneaker ankle bootie as part of their current collection.
Whether with shorts during the summer and early part of Fall, or with leggings and a boyfriend sweater during a California winter, I’d say it’s time to introduce one of these fabulous pairs of shoes to my own shoe collection.
