I scream you scream we all scream for Ice Cream! So lesson learned after I went with my best friend for our birthdays back in May. A camera with a lens that focuses on detail is a must when going to the Museum of Ice Cream. The lighting in this place is challenging to capture all the magic with just an IPhone even with the help of A Color Story.
I know tickets are ridiculously hard to get if you’re not waiting by at least three devices connected to WiFi, but if the opportunity presents itself it’s totally worth the stress of trying to get tickets. The museum that seems like it stemmed from the imagination of Willy Wonka himself is not big, but it’s just enough brightly colored, sweet goodness to provide at least an hour of magical memories. From the sprinkle pool (of which you can find pictures on my Instagram Just_Jess_Fashion) to giant gummy bears, it is pure imagination around every corner.
So what does one wear when going to that somewhere over the rainbow? Honestly, anything! Last time I wore a perfect pastel tulle skirt that I will re-work into a mermaid bound for a Disney trip in the near future. But again, the lighting with just an Iphone did not work as well as I had hoped so I felt like I kind of just blended in to my surroundings with all the sherbert fabulousness of my pastel skirt. This time, I figured I would be inspired by a blank canvas and stick with a white dress. Not just any white dress of course. I mean hello! The Museum of freaking Ice Cream has a minimum fabulousness requirement and this dress from Asos with bow detail in the front was exactly enough fabulousness to get me through the door. I was beyond thrilled with how the perfectly saturated colors on the walls matched my ensemble. And of course, how could I resist bringing my new favorite heart shaped sunglasses to experience the fun?
Some friendly tips if you plan on experiencing the magic for yourself:
- Take your time! The museum doesn’t have very many rules but one is that once you leave a room you can’t go back. Someone was saying it looked like I had the museum all to myself this round, and the trick was just waiting long enough for a crowd to pass. Trust me, you’ll want to savor every sweet moment!
- If you have a camera with any type of professional lens. Bring it! A cell phone just doesn’t do the brightness of the colors justice.
- The samples for the most part are…ok. Ya, I was a little disappointed about this too but I did love the ice cream pancakes at the end!
- The sprinkle pool is limited by time, so do your research and practice your selfies a head of time. The first time I went it was 3 minutes…now it seems to be about 4 or 5. It goes by fast so make every second count!

So unless you completely deprive yourself of social media and or the news, 1 you’re probably not reading this and 2 you have probably missed the fact that all these So Cal rainstorms have brought some amazing backdrops perfect for a Saturday getaway and perfect for a Spring shoot! Driving down the 15 Frwy it’s hard not to stop to admire the golden hills sides taken over by the California State flower. Now I know why they call us the Golden State! Currently the hills side of Lake Elsinore have been painted gold by this little flower and it’s absolutely breathtaking.
While I probably should have reconsidered the shoe situation as the two blisters on my toes are reminders to not do that again- a romper was the perfect choice! Rompers are my go to ensemble for warmer weather as it is both practical and chic. Paired with a wide brimmed hat and ta da the perfect attire to welcome warmer weather! And what better combo that my favorite color and my favorite silhouette to welcome one of my favorite seasons. Granted Spring is officially not for a few more weeks- I appreciate mother nature’s justification for arriving basically fashionably early. Well done Mother Nature, well done.
Happy February all! And happy it’s been! I’ve stepped up to the plate and accepted (well nobody really challenged me except myself) a Style Challenge for the month of February. Initiated by fellow fashion blogger, Hilary Rushford there is a theme each day. Which can I tell you is extremely helpful and so much fun! I always enjoy putting outfits together but now that each day is a theme, I can actually pre-game an outfit, complete with accessories and shoes and kill it! It’s almost like every day is Valentines Day except instead of just focuses on fashion there’s also days for beauty and accessories as well. For example, one day was “Bold Kissable Lips.” That’s one thing I have neglected on this blog which is a shame and if my mother were around would probably nag at me until I fixed it. That woman loved her lip liner as much she loved her children, and was known to have perfectly colored and lined lips at all times. Recently I went to dinner with my Aunt Sharon, and wouldn’t you know it we both felt obligated to have our best and brightest lipstick on so as to make her proud. If impacting someones fashion/ beauty choices even a decade after your death isn’t being a trend setter well than heck I don’t know what is! But, again, that’s why I’m super stoked for this month’s fashion challenge because it’s actually challenging me to explore parts of fashion that I have not dedicated nearly as much attention to as they deserve. Only half way through and I already know I need to step up my accessory and lip game (thanks to mom and Kylie Jenner I know lip liner is no longer an option.)
There is a catch though with this challenge. You have to make it work with pieces that you already own! Which again is a challenge from the accessory front because for some reason most of my jewelry pieces have decided to break on me. So annoying and a pain to get fixed. But alas, a true fashionista makes everything work. 90’s kids might remember that infamous scene in the “Lizzie Mcguire Movie” where Lizzie’s arch nemesis Kate Sanders humiliates her at graduation in front of the entire student body by calling her “an outfit repeater.” That scene plays in my subconscious whenever I get ready in the morning. Yes. My biggest fear in life is being wardrobe shamed by a real life Kate Sanders and getting publicly humiliated for wearing the same outfit twice. But, that’s when switching tops with bottoms and changing your shoes, or the bag you accessorize it with comes in handy. Accessories are not only a girls best friend but a reputation saver as well. Thank you accessories!
Below are some of the highlights from the challenge thus far. Stay tuned for more!
