So I look forward to the 4th of July with just as much excitement if not more than Christmas. Halloween still rules as number one and I am beyond thrilled to start seeing decorations already popping up in stores. But that’s neither here nor there. While some people might find the idea of working on their favorite holiday depressing, I was actually looking forward to it because it was one of the few days in the year we could deviate from our normal dress code of black and white.
But alas, the time came to put an outfit together and my initial concept of grunge red white and blue was put to rest because that included a long sleeve top and jeans and it was 100 degrees outside. So I thought about my blue dress with red shoes and then I realized I looked more like a Japanese Anime character than a patriotic princess. Then I recalled my favorite red skirt that was sold to me during the holiday season with the thought wearing it specifically for independence day. And what’d ya know! That skirt that I bought for that “just in case” moment actually was the perfect thing. So even though, I was rocking both a dress and a skirt, nobody knew and I got compliments all day! And my premeditated outfit of 4th of July Nirvana complete with red white and blue plaid top and denim shorts was still rocked later in the evening once the temperature dropped. No pictures though because, again I worked and nobody looks cute working what we in retail lovingly refer to as a “clopening” shift.
Olivia Benson’s first 4th! She likes fireworks as long as they’re not too loud and she can watch them behind her daddy.

Apparently today is the first day of Fall! Ummm, Mother Nature obviously did’t get that memo because we are still near triple digit temperatures. So today I thought I’d compromise with weather appropriate style. I have some pretty amazing boots that I can’t wait to pull from their seasonal boxes! And just like every other fashionista, I’ve got my brown boots, my burgundy boots, my black boots my ankle booties, my knee high heels and my heels that my boyfriend has nicknamed my hooker boots all just waiting to make their seasonal debut. In conversing with another fashionista a few weeks ago we decided truthfully EVERYONE needs at least one good pair of hooker boots.
Today though, no other boots seemed appropriate than my favorite knock off designer boots by GC Shoes. Sometimes Haute Look has too many good deals to pass up and these were purchased for less than $50 last season. At the time I really wanted the Chloe Savannah Boot, but knew for financial reasons it wasn’t possible. Until end of seasons mark downs happened and the normally $1,000 boot became $500. Hallelujah! Anyways, ankle boots are perhaps one of the wisest decisions a fashionista not living in an area prone to winter blizzards can make. Our winters never see snow (ok maybe on rare once in a lifetime occasions.) But the only time I have seen snow is when a. it’s fake or b. I’ve ventured up to Big Bear where the snow already blanketed the ground. Yup, I’ve never even seen real snow actually fall. Alas, ankle booties look great tucked into jeans on a cold 60 degree day and paired with a pair of super cute colorful jeans on days when Mother Nature seemed to have forgotten it’s time to change.

Confession time! I am not one of those people who copes well with grey skies and clouds. Thus is why I chose to stay in California when everyone else in my family moved to a different state. I can deal with the occasional rain cloud. But I do it in my own way. My rain coat is hot pink with sequined accents. And my umbrella is the most neon shades of green and pink (thank you Marc Jacobs for getting that some people were not meant for the rain.)
While I do have the essential Burberry rain boots to get me through monsoon type storms, I prefer my heels. Granted they’re not the safest and Lord only knows how many time I’ve slipped and fallen due to my impractical yet still fashionable wardrobe choices on a rainy day. Alas, today was no exception to my personal fashion rules for inclement weather. And just as the clouds starting to cover the sun (but ironically they didn’t do anything to help cool the weather) I reached and grabbed my brightest ensemble to brighten up the dreary day.

For future reference, Dapper Day at Disneyland is the fashion event of the season. Even though I had mentally been preparing myself for Disney’s most fashionable day for months, I honestly stepped into California Adventure feeling like an underachiever. First of all, there was supposed to be a Roger to go with my Jessica but Roger got called to work. What do ya do? And even though I walked past the Dapper Convention at the California Grand Hotel, I didn’t have a chance to stop and check out all the vintage awesomeness. It was also one of my best friends birthday and naturally I was running fashionably late to our lunch date.
In case you live outside of So Cal and don’t have the luxury of being able to visit Disneyland on a weekly basis, let me enlighten you on what Dapper Day is. Pretty much it’s an excuse to justify wearing heels to Disneyland and dust off your favorite vintage pieces. Plus, I gladly accepted the challenge to coordinate my outfit in the spirit of a Disney character.
The girls in our group were complaining they were hot but I reminded them we were the last ones to be complaining. My fashion props for sure went to the guys walking around in triple digit heat wearing full on suits, dress shirts and basically layers upon layers. I wish I would have gotten more pics of all the adorableness that was walking around the park but alas there just wasn’t enough time in the day. Plus, the day again was for my friend. She got to call the shots since she was the birthday girl. So even though, I didn’t get a chance to visit the convention or even Disneyland for that matter. I did have a chance to be Dapper on Dapper Day, and for me that’s enough. Next Spring though, it’s on!

What better way to spend Sunday Funday than with a bunch of other fabulous gals who love fashion as much as I do! Seriously, there aren’t enough words to perfectly articulate how amazing it is to chat with gals who love fashion and blogging just as much as I do. This afternoon I had the opportunity to chat with the girls of San Diego Style Bloggers. I’ll be completely honest, it’s a little nerve wracking meeting up with a bunch of total strangers (well not total, some I had known of through Instagram and various other social media outlets.) The funny thing is, we were all thinking the same thing, and after several introductions the rest of the meet up was smooth sailing. Truthfully, we do know each other through blog posts! It is such a surreal moment when meeting someone and they say “oh I’ve read your blog!” To know people take time out of their busy day to catch up on my thoughts, is such a humbling experience that I’m sure was mutual throughout the group. Although our styles are different, our passion and drive is the same.
The theme of the brunch was “Get Ready For The Race Track.” I knew I should have invested in a large hat! Sadly I will be working during this coming Thursdays opening ceremonies. But no worries, that just means I have a whole year to plan an amazing outfit (and more importantly find a perfect hat!) While I probably should have opted for something more suitable for afternoon tea, I instead opted for neutral colors and simplicity. With the exception of my favorite sparkly Prada sunnies. The ONE time I don’t wear pink. Oh well, it’s good to change it up every now and then. While many of us were bummed to miss one of San Diego’s most spectacular event, we are all counting down the days to the main event! San Diego Fashion week is literally only a few months away! I’ve always gone to LA Style Week but never SD. From what the girls said, it’s just as amazing! So now that means I have twice the events to go to this Fall. Which also means I’ll have to do twice the shopping. Oh darn, said no fashion blogger to shopping. Ever.
Such fun decor!

So it’s no secret my favorite color is pink. Specifically Barbie pink. I actually went through a phase in life where every single day I wore pink from head to toe. I had it all. Pink back pack, pink folder, pink accessories, pink pants, pink shoes, well you get the picture. I think I was trying to make up to myself for the time I lost during the two years in middle school I claimed my favorite color was lime green. It was Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boy’s favorite color and I believed with all my heart that by denouncing pink in the name of lime green I was literally telling the universe Nick Carter was my soul mate. Shocker it didn’t work out between me and Nick. Alas, he is taken, by a girl whose favorite color is no doubt lime green. She lifts too. Whatever. Anyways, even in college I had a professor tell me she appreciated the fact that every time she saw me I was wearing pink. Who knew the guilt trip of my middle school lime green years would follow me for a life time! Sometimes looking at your nails or that perfect shade of pink lipstick is the perfect pick me up I need to get me through the days woes.
Truth be told though my obsession with pink is not entirely Nick Carter’s fault. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve been in love with the color since the day I was born. And that love has led to the appreciation and fondness of equally bright, and vibrant colors. My boss told me the other day he picked a folder comprised of yellows and oranges specifically for me. “Sweet!” I responded to this announcement and explained why I appreciate bright happy shades of the color wheel. Life after all, is too short to not appreciate a pop of color whether it be in the office, painted on my nails (which I’m proud to announce are not only currently pink but sparkly as well!) or even a fabulous skirt such as this little H&M gem. Don’t get me wrong, I too have my dark days. Where I wear black on black, and even a plumb shade of lipstick. I envision my mother rolling over in her grave every time I wear a dark shade. After all she prohibited me from wearing black, shopping at Hot Topic and wearing anything other than borderline sheer lip shades. But life, no matter how tragic I might think the day is, is still to short not to wear the happiest color on as many days as possible.
One of the most tragic days of my fashion lives was when my sisters (no one came forward so in my opinion they’re both guilty) took the matching ring to this bracelet, removed the butterfly from the ring portion and glued it to a hair tie. Seriously? Who does that?!
