If one person even says that this outfit is inspired by Coachella, I’m gonna scream. Yes, I do love festival attire. And most certainly I love Lana Del Ray. However, I have long been inspired by this hippie chic look perhaps since birth. After all, I was born into a Dead Head family so I like to believe that I got a head start on this trend.
In fact I have long been in love with the accessorizing with flowers. When I was younger I’d pick flowers and put them behind my ear. And then I discovered Tarina Tarantino in my early twenties who gasp not only makes flower hair clips but SPARKLY flower hair clips! A gal after my own bedazzled flower power loving heart. Sadly, several bosses of mine put a halt to this look declaring it to be “too ugly betty” for our brand. I was told that those words were a sentiment of care and muttered with the finest of intentions but the result was the same. From that moment on I was scared to sparkle from my head for fear of being rendered an “Ugly Betty.” Looking back now I realize this was all lies and simply a vein attempt for some people to dull my sparkle. Never again! Some people were born to shine and I am well prepared to say so to the next person who says anything to the contrary.
So today, on this day when we celebrate one man’s dream for freedom of equality, I celebrate my freedom to be as sparkly and floral as possible. You’re probably thinking to yourself, but the only thing sparkly about this outfit is the necklace. True, but fear not for after this blog post I intend on going to my neighborhood craft store and raiding the rhinestone aisle. Tonight I shall have a bedazzle party and bedazzle everything in sight. Sometimes it’s not just about simply being sparkly but rather being inspired to sparkle.
Like my favorite designer always says, “have a sparkling day
Growing up my ultimate goal was to own a flower crown. I didn’t even care if it was one of those imitation sparkly crowns with the ribbons flowing down from the end. I wanted one. Yes, I was blessed to have pretty much everything else I ever wanted, but every single time an opportunity to own a flower crown arose, that dream was shot to hell when a. they either sold out. Or B. I was distracted or gifted by something else. Today my dream of finally owning and pairing this perfect pink flower crown became a reality. One life dream accomplished, about a million more to go!

2013 I was extremely blessed with opportunities and a fabulous wardrobe. And that didn’t come without sacrifices not just from me, but mostly on the part of my loving boyfriend. It takes a lot of time, money and especially patience to support a fashion blogger and yet he continues to encourage me to pursue this crazy dream of mine. One of the things I love most about him. Really and truly babe, not a day goes by I don’t count my lucky stars for how lucky I am to call you mine. And the icing on the cake is he knows I’m not a diamond kind of gal but rather I prefer to be showered in shoes. I’ll take a pair of sparkly Louboutins over a pretty ring any day! (Think the Big proposal to Carrie in the shoe closet. My dream come true!)
Apparently plaid and jeans are the perfect combo when shopping for tools and car parts!
However, this year I have promised him that I want to focus on pursuing his dreams. That dear loyal readers does not mean I’m not pursuing blogging anymore. I’m finally getting the hang of this thing and miraculously comprehending the efficient use of my camera settings, so I’d like to think the best is yet to come! But the main topic of conversation and disposable income this going to be geared toward making my other half happy. And for him that’s cars. Currently he’s working on adding upgrades to his truck. What that means for me is instead of spending the day browsing the racks at my favorite stores is instead learning the difference between a nut and a bolt at a hardware store.
Being the fashionista that I am, I look at every opportunity as an outfit debut. And in the spirit of tools and perhaps slightly inspired by the only exposure to tools I’ve ever experienced in my twenty something years of life, I guess my outfit was somewhat inspired by none other than “Tool Time’s” favorite bearded host, Al Boreland. Chris get’s new parts and I get to wear a new outfit. Everybody wins, and that ladies and gents is called compromise!
Note to self, next time you’re told your going to a hardware store pack a cute coat! It gets cold in those large warehouses in January!

Confession time…Halloween is my favorite holiday. For someone who works retail, it’s one of the few holidays I can actually take off and celebrate in peace. To those brave souls who work in the Halloween stores, I applaud you and thank you for your service. Don’t get me wrong, while I love the foofiness of a store bought costume, I thoroughly enjoy calling upon my inner Martha Stuart to see what I can come up with. While it is my lifelong dream to dress up one day as Britney Spears from her MTV VMA “Slave For You Performance.” My abs need more definition before I can make that happen.
Alas, this year I opted for Barbie. She’s my fashion icon and she seemed more fun than Coco Chanel. The best part of being me and dressing up as Barbie? I really didn’t have to do much to prepare other then invest in a black and white striped leotard from Forever 21 achieve the “Classic Barbie” look. That look was for last weekends parties. And for yesterday, out of fear for being not just an “outfit repeater” but even worst a “BARBIE OUTFIT REPEATER” (the horror and I shudder at the thought) I opted for this baby blue number and went out as Malibu Barbie. I had a few people tell me I didn’t nail it. I was polite and explained I knew where I strayed from the original, but I really wanted to tell them “Hunny I’ve been a Barbie fan since as long as I can remember. My bumper sticker says ‘Backstreet Barbie.’ I know Barbie.”
There are so many great things about dressing up as Barbie! My makeup gets to be sparkly and pink! There is no such thing to wearing too much sparkle. And I finally have an excuse to wear my hot pink Alice and Olivia Rain Coat. This years costume was sooo much fun! People actually came up to me and shook my hand because of how brilliant my outfit was. Some people thought I had dressed up as Gaga, another thought I had dressed up as Elle Woods from “Legally Blonde.” My response to that is I object! But I do love her too.
My Barbie Jacket aka a Raincoat by Alice and Olivia.
Of course the jewelry for the night came from my favorite accessory designer Tarina Tarantino.
All this talk of Beach Barbie even inspired an ocean themed for my pumpkin. Ordinary is not in my vocabulary but thingamabob and dinglehopper are. FYI I did this completely free hand. I wouldn’t even know where to get a stencil, but I did get the idea for the silhouette from Pintrest.
All I know is I can’t wait till next year! And who knows, maybe I’ll do this Barbie thing every year. Lord knows there are more than enough outfit choices, and hopefully next year I’ll have a hot pink corvette or at least a Barbie dream house to match.

Even my boyfriend got into the act and went as Surfer Ken. He’s kind of a dream boat.

Somedays ya just wake up feeling in a mood for pink. I think I was born with this mood. Today, I was feeling extra pink and ta da, a rummage through my closet and a few minutes digging through my jewelry box I put together this ensemble. Now, I’ve tried to tone my need to look like a Barbie doll down. And I think I’ve come a long way. I went through a phase in high school where every single day I wore pink. We’re talking head to toe pink. Pink top, pink bottoms, pink back pack, pink folders, pink pink pink. I did go through a phase briefly in 7th grade when I declared my favorite color to be pastel green, because that was Nick Carter’s favorite color, but that hardly lasted a year. Like I said, my love for pink has existed pretty much since the day I was born.
Perhaps it’s because due to my dress code at work, my wardrobe has been taken over by the color black that on my days off I feel it absolutely necessary to branch out beyond the color wheel’s most mundane colors. Regardless of the reason, or the season I suppose every time is a good time to wear pink.
Today I went to run an errand, and the cashier told me her daughter would have loved my jewelry. I usually get that a lot when wearing my hello kitty/ Barbie pieces. To be expected. She said she was going to go home and say “Barbie was in my store today.” Talk about a way to make a persons day!
They don’t say she’s “pretty in pink” for nothing.
Tarina Tarantino heart bracelet. If it’s anyone who can appreciate the color pink as much as I do, it’s the woman with pink hair.
The piece that started off my whole Tarina Tarantino collection. Still my favorite.
This picture really does not do this dress justice. The possibilities to accessorize this dress are endless.
Well I am officially in my favorite predicament. I have a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. I love my designers but I also love my signature pieces. I have worn the heck out of my favorite Zac Posen for Target red ruffled dress. So alas, I’m contemplating debuting some of my closet favorites that have yet to see the light of day.
For LA Fashion, pretty much anything goes, and that’s my problem! Too many options, too much freedom and my fashion senses just continue to run a muck. I’ve been racking my brain for weeks now and this is what I’ve come up with.
Do I go fancy? If that is the route I go, my choice is my romantic lace turqoise halter cocktail dress. I’d have to wear my hair up to show the stunning detail in the back and I have TO DIE for blue crystal jewelry that would be the perfect accent. Not to mention I’d be able to strut my favorite sparkly Chanel heels on the red carpet.
Chanel heels+ Sparkle+LA Fashion Week= A match made in heaven ❤
Or do I go the fun whimsical route and wear my Free People hot pink endless lace dress. The model on Free People’s web site sports this with an uber awesome large brimmed hat, and that would answer my current root problem. Not to mention, pink is my signature color and my rhinestone incrusted hot pink Manolo Blahnik’s would be a match made in heaven. LA Fashion is all about expressing who you are through fashion. This outfit screams Barbie and have I ever mentioned that’s my nick name? This would definitely be my signature look.
Sleeveless miles of lace dress by Free People….pink is my signature color
An investment I made at Neimans a few years ago…pink, plus sparkles, plus Manolo’s= Jesus made these shoes for me
My final option would be to go uber chic with an Alexander Wang goddess type jersey and silk dress. This dress reminds me of a blank canvas. It’s so elegant but the possibilities to accessorize the dress are amazing. I love how this blogger accessorizes hers with large chunky jewelry. The shoes of choice for this dress would be my Sergio Rossi cut out ankle booties.
Gah! Decisions decisions! Whelp friends and fellow fashionistas, help a gal out and help me pick an outfit! The choice will be announced on Wednesday when I recap all the exciting fashions I experienced at the Project Ethos Event.
For some strange reason, I have recently become obsessed with chunky, sparkly, vintage looking floral jewelry pieces. Ok, now when I stop and think about it, perhaps it’s not so strange at all. After all, I am a self proclaimed girly girl, and I think that it is my own way of rebelling against fall a season traditionally associated with leaves falling and most of mother nature decaying and ready to brace itself for the cold, and dreary winter season.
Don’t get me wrong, I love fall just as much as the next pumpkin spice/ peppermint mocha/ scarf wearing/ boot obsessed individual, but I am now starting to embrace fall with a new attitude, no thanks to my floral obsession.
While perhaps pastels are more suitable for spring according to fashion laws, laws are sometimes meant to be broken. Yes, I am a fan of winter white, and I don’t care what anybody else says about the belief that it should not be worn after Labor Day. Think about it, how lovely it is it to see soft shades of rose and gold amongst sepia tones?
And the best thing about floral jewelry in the fall, is that it’s usually on clearance because it’s considered “out of season.” My obsession has been satisfied recently browsing through the Forever 21 jewelry collection, which doesn’t go on clearance because it’s so cheap to begin with. But I’ve started pairing pieces with some statement jewelry pieces that have been a member of my jewelry collection for years, such as this gorgeous Betsey Johnson gem I got for myself as a Christmas gift years ago. I guess you could say it’s vintage.
Girly-ness knows know season, just how to be fabulous.
I suppose it comes with the territory, haters are going to line up to hate when you marry the reigning Prince of Pop, and former teen heart throb Justin Timberlake. Personally the only problem I saw with this wedding was that it was not to Britney Spears, although I always knew Jessica Timberlake had a nice ring to it. But the blogs and social media sites are a buzz with disdain for Jess’ choice of color for her dress.
Although, as mentioned before I AM AND WILL FOREVER BE TEAM BRITNEY, I support Jessica’s choice. First of all, when it is your wedding it is your choice. Haters, listen up… It’s not your wedding album to look back on, so what is it to you? Second of all, after spending a few months of my life working in bridal I realized that hardly anybody these days gets a traditional, starch white dress. And third, can you really blame a girl for wanting to look like an absolute princess when marrying a prince? From what I hear, the two got married in a castle! So it makes perfect sense she had a princess ball gown to go with the theme!
If you know me, and you don’t have to know me too well to know why I would support the concept of a pink dress. I’ve been a pink girl since the day I was born. The only time that changed I was in 7th grade and I went through a phase of saying my favorite color was lime green because that was Nick Carter’s favorite color. Needless to say, I’ve been fond of having a dress infused with pink hues ever since I saw pictures of Gwen Stefani’s gorgeous and perfect wedding dress.
Gwen rocked her pink gown like a rock star
Needless to say I’m uber happy that one of my fav singers found 7th Heaven and someone he wants to spend eternity with, again even if it’s not my beloved Brit (which brings me to my only frustration with the media coverage of this event. Dear People, was it really necessary to put Britney’s picture on the cover too?) So while countless haters will continue to blast their disdain for the dress as a cover up for their secretly broken heart over Justin Timberlake not having married them, I will count down the days till I get to marry my own prince charming wearing a pink dress.
