So I was watching a documentary the other day on the editors of Vogue. And while they all had intriguing things to say about ground breaking editorials of the past century, one the things that stood out most was one editor (forgive me I forgot her name, but it wasn’t Anna Wintour) and her loathing of the grunge phase. So much effort was spent on establishing this phase in fashion history, even for some to look back and say that it was the worse period of their lives!
Then I started thinking. Is that ever going to be me? I am hardly a prestigious writer. I have never been published in Vogue (yet.) But is that part of the initiation rights of being a well renowned writer? Giving up what you believe in? It would seem so. For me part of this journey of becoming a blogger was inspired by my short lived internship as a Fashion Editor for Orangecounty.com. They were Roxy and surf and I gave up that life in 9th grade. (Partly because I’ve never surfed in my life and I was called out as a poser. Oh the vocabulary of my generation <insert giggles here>) It wasn’t me. My editor knew it, I knew it thus I gave myself my own platform. Where I would never be subjected to force out an article or force inspiration. Am I going to look back on these posts one day and think to myself “God, what was I thinking?” God I hope not. Truth be told, the only fashion phase I’ve ever gone through and regretted were more so of the beauty kind than the fashion kind. Blue eye shadow works on some, for me I end up looking like Mimi from Drew Carry. I wish someone would have told me this when I went down that road in high school. Alas, Britney wore it so I had to try it. She wins the “who wore it best look” on that one.
While these days my style is much more toned down in comparison to previous years I still feel like I’m coming in to my own. And I don’t regret the decisions that will ultimately determine the direction of my next fashion phase, even if it means trying out the all pink on pink look. I do still own my hot pink bubblegum pants! Either way since I’ve come into this whole concept of doing things on my own terms in my own way, I highly doubt I’ll be that person that looks back and says “that worse time of my life.” Nobody has forced me to do anything. My mistakes and triumphs are my own and like with everything else I prefer it that way.

Don’t get me wrong. I had a blast at Dapper Day. An excuse to get all dressed up and go to Disneyland? Well, I would do that anyways but it’s nice when you have company. Although I had wanted to debut some of my best fall looks in front of all the fun holiday decor at Disneyland, triple digit heat once again prevented that from happening.
The cool thing about going to Disneyland though, is you don’t have to get dressed up to be in dress code or on trend. Literally, it’s one of the few places I feel comfortable just wearing some jeans, a t-shirt and some flip flops. Let’s be honest, as long as it pairs perfectly with a pair of mouse ears, you’re good to go. Although, since I always have a tendency take a concept to infinity and beyond (sorry not sorry, I couldn’t help the pun which was totally intended) I decided to pay a subtle tribute to the magic maker himself. It’s no secret Walt Disney had a fascination with trains. So I decided to release my inner train conductor and put on my favorite pin striped overalls. Allllll aboard!

So lesson learned today from a photography perspective. Taking a 50 mm lens, by yourself to the beach when the tide is ridiculously high is not a wise idea. Despite my investment in Lightroom, my skill set is not quite where it needs to be to make the necessary adjustments. Alas, I still felt like a mermaid today in this ridiculously amazing Wildfox top. I would have voted for recreating that infamous scene from the Little Mermaid, when she’s perched on top of the rock but all the rocks at the beach but due to extreme tide levels all rocks were just a little too dangerous for my taste to try and accomplish that look on my own.
But seriously, if you ever thought it would be fun to rock an outfit inspired by the Little Mermaid, I’m here to confirm that suspicion. While everyone is all hot and bothered about the “Free The Nipple” movement, this girl over here feels perfectly liberated rocking her sea shells. Princess Perfect I might add. And Princess Ariel to be specific. It doesn’t take much to be inspired by my favorite Disney Princess. After all, pink and purple are her primary colors and also just so happen to be my favorite. Another winning outfit decision no thanks to Wildfox!
I couldn’t help but hum to myself The Tide Is High while doing this blog shoot today. Another beautiful day at Crystal Cove.
Thingamabobs? I’ve got twenty. But who cares? I want mooore.

So once again I must apologize for taking an unannounced absence oh loyal readers. These past few months, I’ve been occupied dealing with the business (aka the boring) side of fashion. Ok, perhaps boring is too strong of a word, because the reality was far from boring but rather challenging I suppose. Sadly, rather than blogging, I’ve been opening up a brand new store. So instead of sitting front row at fashion shows, or hanging out with Mickey Mouse I’ve been recruiting a sales team, training and merchandising for a brand new store that has already achieved a million dollars. So while that’s impressive, and I do feel more rounded as a professional after this experience, I can’t help but feel as though I’ve missed out on life these past few months.
Yes, I’m beyond grateful for the opportunities that present themselves daily, and I really do love my job, well most days anyways. However, May is my favorite month of the year by far, and I feel like I missed out on so much! April showers are supposed to bring May flowers. So naturally I was beyond stoked to learn that not far from where I work, there was not just a garden, but a field of flowers! I tried so hard to make it before their season ended, however between bridal party engagements and 6 day work weeks comprised of 16 hour days, it just never worked out. This determination to get to this what I presume to be a breathtakingly beautiful place has turned into a fashion obsession. I didn’t purposefully go out and look for a floral top, however on a trip to Forever 21 in search of a birthday outfit I stumbled upon this fabulous piece. If I can’t visit the flowers at least I can wear them. They say that fashion is an art form. A mean of expressing ones’ self. This was my way of saying, all I really wanted to do was see the flowers.
Prada sunnies and pink flowers. I found this blouse on a last minute trip to Forever about a month ago. All I wanted to do for my birthday was visit the flower fields in Carlsbad but work commitments prevented that from happening. Alas, theres always next season. In the mean time I’m going through a floral phase. If I can’t go see the flowers at least I can wear them!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In this case, that’s not beauty that’s my boo. Lol my photographer/ boyfriend caught in the lens of my Pradas.

Call it a Spring Awakening if you will but yesterday, while sitting in my hair stylists’ chair and surfing through Google for images of Ashley Tisdale (ok, cat’s out of the bag she’s my second favorite blonde) I was inspired by a picture of her with darker locks and I decided to go a darker shade of blonde. After all was said and done (which by the way the process to go darker is soooo much easier than going lighter, no foils enough said) my blonde locks had mostly disappeared and were replaced with a very light shade of brown. This is actually a little closer to my natural color, and I’ve been wanting to do something different with my hair for awhile. I wasn’t going to let time be the only thing to change this week!
For reasons unknown to me, after I get my hair done, I instantly want a new wardrobe to go with it. Unlike my usual shopping excursions which take me to boutiques, South Coast or Fashion Island, this shopping trip took me to the Temecula Promenade. I heard H&M was having a sale and I needed some replacement items from Mac so really it was like the fashion universe was all but screaming at me to go. Sadly the sale racks had already been picked over at H&M so I ventured over to Forever 21 where I always know I can find something that’s cute and affordable. While I did invest in a few pieces I did notice a trend occurring. I not only went back to darker roots with my hair, but I went back to my all time favorite color, pink. Yes, almost everything I bought yesterday screamed pink, sparkly and girly. Don’t get me wrong, I love every article that exists in my closet. But because of color restrictions at work black and white have taken over my closet. It was high time I put my signature color back where it belongs.
This necklace reminded me of the Little Mermaid, so naturally I had to get it.
Best $2 I’ve ever spent.
Coat: French Connection
White Tank: Forever 21
Camo Jeans: Textile by Elizabeth and James
Ankle Booties: Saks 5/48
Tis the season for changes, and for whatever reason I was recently compelled to invest in a pair of camo print jeans. I had a choice to invest in a pair of light washed or darker washed and I opted for the latter. Although they don’t photograph all that well I assure they look amazing in person! Dark camo, wax coated denim, yes please! And there are so many different ways to wear them! I can’t wait to give them an urban look by pairing them with some combat boots and a black beanie. Today I opted for a more military chic inspired look by pairing them with my favorite pair of wedged ankle booties, and my military green French Connection coat, perfect for a crisp So Cal Fall sunset (which was 80 degrees in case you were wondering.) I wouldn’t even know how to spend a Winter with snow.
They say you learn something new every day…today I learned you CAN hike in wedges. Who knew?!
Funny story, since I work out in the desert now I actually did experience a snowy afternoon. I thought it was rain. Never in my life have I seen it snow. And the few times I have ventured up to Big Bear to enjoy some fresh white snow I was never properly prepared. I showed up ready to snowboard in jeans once. My best friend perhaps prepared for this moment reminded me snow is water and quickly showed me he brought me an extra pair of snow board pants. Water proof! Who knew! The good news is I have no talent nor desire to ever pursue snowboarding as a recreational activity so no loss there.
I’ll trade a snowy day for a nice sunny one on the beach any day!
Nothing better then feeling sand beneath your toes.
