Well it appears as though the seasons have finally caught up to the calendar. Mother nature has finally had her obligatory Pumpkin Spice Late (with soy, of course cause that’s just how I envision Mother Nature to roll) and has bestowed upon us days where it actually makes sense to wear a scarf and yes even boots!
So what better way to spend the first chilly day in Fall other than to head up to my new official favorite photo spot, Rileys Farm in Oak Glen. This time I took my little family with me. My little Olivia had a blast running through the fields of pumpkins and yes we are those dog people who let her pick out her own pumpkin.
So in the spirit of weather below 75 degrees, which by So Cal fashion bylaw means it’s time to bundle up, I grabbed my favorite boots, hat, big glasses and my newest Fall addition, my plaid scarf and boom! Perfect Fall ensemble! Minus the peacoat due to the ruggedness of my destination. However, despite some previous investments into ensuring serious Fall vibes when it comes to the style department such as my favorite ALC leather pants, there are some other staples I look forward to adding to my closet this season. See below my list of Fall must haves for this season.
- Stuart Weitzman Lowland boots
- Vegan leather leggings- Free People, because, well obviously.
- Wildfox Sweaters- because one can never have too many of those. A
- Tunic Dresses in all dark hues- navy, burgundy, and maybe even some emerald for kicks and giggles.
- More scarves- Prints and solids to mix it up.
In addition to cooler temps and pretty foliage, what are your favorite things about Fall dear readers?

Happy first day of Fall! And although technically we all know the first day of Fall is actually the day Starbucks launches their Pumpkin Spice latte, it’s nice to know that it’s actually a day that’s marked on a calendar. I guess giving a secondary day is a nice compromise for those who don’t count the days in accordance to a coffee chain’s seasonal menu.
Alas, as I got ready today my boyfriend stated what many of you are probably thinking. He obviously questioned my choice of style for the day considering it’s probably not an ideal wardrobe decision on a 90 degree day. “But it’s the first day of Fall!” I argued! And he just shook his head and moved on to the next subject of the day knowing Fashion arguments always end up with me winning anyways.
It actually wasn’t as bad of a choice as one would think. While yes, the fabric was a bit heavy for nearly triple digit heat, the boxiness of it actually helped counter some of the heat. And while yes some people opt for skin tight clothes on a hot…summer, or wait… FALL day that can quickly become unappealing for a number of reasons and equally uncomfortable. Not to mention, the evenings around here on the Lake we call home it can get a tad bit chilly so it actually worked perfect as a day into night piece.
So while we’ve all seen the meme’s mocking us stereotypical fashion girls who clutch onto our favorite Holiday latte’s with more of a grip than a Black Friday shopper taking that last shelved coveted item and anxiously await the days where we truly can wear our oversized sweaters with our oversized sunnies, it looks like there is a compromise. Fellow fashionistas take it from me, oversized sweaters are in fact an option if you go for the short sleeved boxy type and pair it with a left over summer staple i.e a skirt or even a cute pair of denim shorts. Consider it your Fall Fashion compromise on ice. You know, until it actually starts feeling like Fall.

I didn’t think it would ever happen but sweater weather finally arrived today! And in typical cliche form I couldn’t help but talk about it with nearly everyone I came into contact with today. Even the guy at Verizon, who enlightened me to the fact he spent $200 on his seasonal sweaters yesterday. I couldn’t help but share with him my technique for prepping my closet for a new season is to think about that season after it ends. Scratching your head thinking, what in the world is she talking about? Basically, my secret for being seasonally appropriate is to invest in seasonal pieces in the after sale. I got my swimsuits in January when stores were trying to move through their previous seasons to make way for new collections. Similarly, I invested in my sweaters a few months ago when the temperatures were still triple digit.
Ok, truthfully I would have looked for any excuse to buy this totes adorbs Barbie by Forever 21 sweater. But I knew it would be perfect for a cold day and wouldn’t ya know, I was right. It is just enough for temperatures that drop to about 60 degrees, aka the time of year when So Cal residents fear of dying of hypothermia. Ok, maybe that’s just me, but in truth anything less than 75 degrees is only acceptable temperatures when I have cute sweaters such as this to endure it.
Oh my favorite Tarina earrings. Always the perfect accent when looking to complete that Barbie girl look.
