“Let’s try and look our best everyday” said Jeff Krapf, one of the hosts of Fashion Week San Diego on the third night of one of San Diego’s most epic annual events. And look our best we did, myself and all the attendees who flocked to Broadway Pier for Fashion Week. While Fashion Week San Diego doesn’t exactly have as large of a crowd as LA, or as big of names to sashay down the runway, they definitely bring fashion with a passion.
When I go to LA it’s a given that I’m going to see some pretty big names in the crowd. You know you’re keeping up with the trends when you sit behind the Kardashian’s kid sisters, the Jenner girls, and Scott Disick. San Diego has a star power of a different kind. In case you didn’t know, San Diego is home to many a talented and diverse group of fashion bloggers. I had the pleasure of meeting many of these girls a few months back at a pre-fashion week event. Passion and commitment to fashion is no longer exclusive to those who are talented with an artistic vision and a sewing machine. Or those who are fortunate enough to work under Anna Wintours wing. Some of us were bestowed quite simply with the gift of style and passion for writing about it. Which is why although the main event focuses on those fabulous designers who have emerged from the sunny streets of San Diego, I was equally if not more so, fascinated by what other attendees were wearing to the event. And my fellow fashion bloggers definitely brought their A game to the show. Which girls (and some guys) just an FYI I applaud you! In case you didn’t know, it’s a perfectly welcomed challenged to put together jaw dropping outfights together not just once, but 5 nights in a row! To my fellow fashionistas who proudly displayed their outfits in the audience, you nailed it!
Now, let’s move on to the main stage to recap the designs. In a nutshell, they were soooo So Cal! What does that mean exactly? It means I could totally picture myself or someone I know wearing each and every one of the designs. From long flowy dresses to intriguing swimsuits re-imagined with unique cut outs, fabrics and jewels, nearly every piece was ready to wear! As in I was totally ready to wear it! Yes, even the crazy Gaga esque’ pieces as displayed by Alpaca Couture. Jewelry and luggage even show cased on the runway! Who knew luggage could be so chic? Thanks for delivering that memo S. Mckellar! Also, shout out to RH Creation for reminding me it is a mission in life to re-create an epic hooded dress. Very elegant Elizabeth Taylor. Overall, I had a blast. And although Fashion Week San Diego doesn’t quite have the same star power or influence as other well known fashion shows, it makes up for it with beautiful starry backdrops with even more breath taking ocean views to pose in front of. Until next year San Diego!
