“Let’s try and look our best everyday” said Jeff Krapf, one of the hosts of Fashion Week San Diego on the third night of one of San Diego’s most epic annual events. And look our best we did, myself and all the attendees who flocked to Broadway Pier for Fashion Week. While Fashion Week San Diego doesn’t exactly have as large of a crowd as LA, or as big of names to sashay down the runway, they definitely bring fashion with a passion.

When I go to LA it’s a given that I’m going to see some pretty big names in the crowd. You know you’re keeping up with the trends when you sit behind the Kardashian’s kid sisters, the Jenner girls, and Scott Disick. San Diego has a star power of a different kind. In case you didn’t know, San Diego is home to many a talented and diverse group of fashion bloggers. I had the pleasure of meeting many of these girls a few months back at a pre-fashion week event. Passion and commitment to fashion is no longer exclusive to those who are talented with an artistic vision and a sewing machine. Or those who are fortunate enough to work under Anna Wintours wing. Some of us were bestowed quite simply with the gift of style and passion for writing about it. Which is why although the main event focuses on those fabulous designers who have emerged from the sunny streets of San Diego, I was equally if not more so, fascinated by what other attendees were wearing to the event. And my fellow fashion bloggers definitely brought their A game to the show. Which girls (and some guys) just an FYI I applaud you! In case you didn’t know, it’s a perfectly welcomed challenged to put together jaw dropping outfights together not just once, but 5 nights in a row! To my fellow fashionistas who proudly displayed their outfits in the audience, you nailed it!

Now, let’s move on to the main stage to recap the designs. In a nutshell, they were soooo So Cal! What does that mean exactly? It means I could totally picture myself or someone I know wearing each and every one of the designs. From long flowy dresses to intriguing swimsuits re-imagined with unique cut outs, fabrics and jewels, nearly every piece was ready to wear! As in I was totally ready to wear it! Yes, even the crazy Gaga esque’ pieces as displayed by Alpaca Couture. Jewelry and luggage even show cased on the runway! Who knew luggage could be so chic? Thanks for delivering that memo S. Mckellar! Also, shout out to RH Creation for reminding me it is a mission in life to re-create an epic hooded dress. Very elegant Elizabeth Taylor. Overall, I had a blast. And although Fashion Week San Diego doesn’t quite have the same star power or influence as other well known fashion shows, it makes up for it with beautiful starry backdrops with even more breath taking ocean views to pose in front of. Until next year San Diego!

You Don’t Have To Wear A Baseball Cap to Support Your Team

You Don't Have To Wear A Baseball Cap to Support Your Team

Blazer and Top: BCBG. Necklace: Forever 21 Sunglasses: Linda Farrow for the Row

My outfit today was inspired by none other then my grandma who prior to me getting ready for the day called me to tell me the Dodgers had just scored! If you know me, you know I am not a sports girl. You’re lucky I know the difference between a baseball and a basketball, and I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve showed up to a bar to actually watch a game. I’m going to tell you right now those adventures were never my idea but I went with it.

Nonetheless, my family is true to the blue. Dodger Blue that is. If you’re looking for a recap of the game, stop now because you will be severely disappointed. I just realized today I can support the Pinedo family’s team beyond investing in a team shirt from Victoria’s secret. Instead, I can just make a proclamation to the world by rocking our team’s colors. Thus, fellow fashionistas we have today’s ensemble. A Dodger Blue blazer by BCBG, and matching sparkly blue Chanel heels.

Go Dodgers!

The High Low Skirt: The Modern Day Princess Dress

So I have been fascinated by this concept of a skirt ever since I saw Carrie Underwood look absolutely fab in her video with Brad Paisley, “Remind Me.” I loved how it caught the wind, and gave elegance to something so simple.

Granted mine is not made of chiffon nor silk, but a cotton blend Brandi Melville high low floral print skirt is sufficient for those of us not walking through the desert for the purpose of filming a music video.

I think what draws me most to these skirts is how they catch the wind. When I was younger, everything had to pass the “twirl test.” A test in which a dress was only wearable if when twirled in, puffed out like a cupcake. Now that I’m older, I no longer impose this test on my wardrobe. But comparing something to a Carrie Underwood piece does add to the “must have” factor for a piece.

Carrie Underwood wore a $1200 Gomez-Gracia dress for her video.

Needless to say, the second I saw this skirt and it reminded me of Carrie’s, I told the sales girl “wrap it up, put it in the bag! My search is over.” And it only cost me about $30!

The Lab: Costa Mesa’s Hipster Haven

The Lab: Costa Mesa's Hipster Haven

First of all, to my former editor who used to talk about the lab and which my response was I knew exactly what he was talking about. I lied. And I’m sorry. I had always heard of the Lab, but never actually ventured out. Never before had I known what greatness I was missing out on!

On the mission for a pair of knee high gladiator sandals, and assured that Urban Outfitters had them (based on their website. Apparently just because something says online only does not mean that just because something does not have that disclaimer it is exclusive for the web as well.) Nonetheless, I figured what better place to look then the Lab.

Little did I know that this place is a Hipsters heaven! There’s little second hand shops, Buffalo Exchange (a place I will never ever shop, solely because they were only going to offer me $50 for a brand new pair of Christian Louboutins. Taking advantage of poor fashionistas is not ok in my book) and a couple of other hipster chic boutiques.

Urban Outfitters, was ok. I see it has potential as it had a lot of floor space, but the shoe racks were literally empty. And considering I was on a mission for shoes, to say this was a disappointment is an understatement. I will cut a little slack though considering Coachella just ended about a month ago. Regardless, they had a little bit of everything except my gladiator sandals, and I’m glad I got the chance to try on some accessories I had been eying. In the jewelry section I stumbled upon some ridiculously cute wire rings, in various shapes, and words. The one that came home with me was a cute little wire ring that spelled out “Bella.” Since my dog’s name is Bella, how could I pass that up? And alas, I have been on a less then aggressive mission for a center ring. Truthfully I’ve been trying to save up for a Loud Love center ring embellished with a few diamonds, but a $6 knock off will suffice in the mean time.

I'm a slaaaave. For fashion. (If you missed the Britney reference I'm sorry but we can't be friends.) Chanel top from Gloss Boutique by JC Inc. Bracelets by Saks. Rings by Urban Outfitters.

There is literally so much eye candy in this little shopping center built by hipsters and artists it’s ridiculous. I’ve never had so much fun with photo ops on a shopping experience in my life! Well, except for maybe Rodeo Dr. but that’s a whole other level of fun. Some stores I did not stay in very long for fear of the smell of hemp seeping permanently in to my pours. Others, I practically ran in compelled by none other then provocative window displays. One such was the display in front of Gloss Boutique. Not only do they display their shoes in books (I literally died a little and went to a heaven where all book nerds have fabulous, amazing shoes.) The item that made me squeal with joy was a cute Chanel Logo, distressed pink logo tank by JC Inc. I all but told the sales associate to wrap it up and put it in the bag!

Nike shoes- they're really cool.

Nike shoes- they’re really cool.

There were a few pop up shops. Like a Nike shoe shop that sells shoes right out of a refrigerator. I guess they’re trying to say Nike shoes are cool? Literally. And this cute little jewelry shop that caught my attention because they had a sign that said “Shiny things this way.” Apparently I have to make a second trip because the designer has yet made a batch of initial rings.

My old boss used to always say I'm like a raccoon. Always distracted by shiny things.

Even the line waiting for the valet was fun! Whoever doesn’t take the time to take a picture in front of a colorful barn is seriously disturbed, and takes life way too seriously.

Here Comes The Sun, and Here Comes the Shades

Here Comes The Sun, and Here Comes the Style

My favorite sunglasses, my purple baroque frames by Prada

In case you have not heard, us So. Cal folks have been enjoying the beautiful sunshine these past couple days. Dear Mr. Sun, won’t you stay awhile? We have missed you oh so very much.

While, enjoying the sunshine means a variety of things for fashion, one of my favorite summer essentials are sunglasses. To be truthful, I don’t think I own one pair of actual, traditional black sunglasses. Everything I own is either dramatic frames in the shape of apples, cat eyes, hello kitty cat eyes, or dramatic baroque design a la’ Prada. Even my black Chanel sunglasses had a lace design on the frames.

Last summer I invested in one of the most classic, traditional glasses (by my collection’s standards anyways.) A pair of leather embellished Choloe’ aviators. And much to my surprise I loved them! Almost makes me want to invest in more classic looking glasses…almost. Side note and friendly word of advice for fellow consumers who also may have purchased this style, the screw that connects the leather to the glasses ALWAYS falls out. Working in retail, these are a pair of glasses that always seems to come with issues. Nothing that can’t be solved though. Any sunglass place should sell extra screws to solve this problem, or if you are like me and don’t have the patience to do this yourself, hold on to the card that comes in the sunglass case that shows certification of authenticity, and according to the manufacturer they will fix the problem.

Every summer, I bedazzle a new pair of sunglasses. I miss my cherry red ones that I gave to one of my besties, but she looks fab in them. Perhaps, I’ll bedazzle my favorite Apple rimmed glasses (literally these are in the shape of bright red apples.)

I bedazzled the bow on these heart shaped hello kitty frames.

Other must haves on my sunglass list are a floral pair of Dolce and Gabana’s, some House of Harlow cat eyes, white baroque Paradas, and maybe a black framed Chanel pair. If I’m going to finally do classic, what better way then to go Chanel. Ooo, and for days when I’m feeling a little crazy, Urban Outfitters has some really fun metal laced framed glasses.

The day is almost here! LA Fashion Week Project Ethos Event is tomorrow!

The day is almost here! LA Fashion Week Project Ethos Event is tomorrow!

This picture really does not do this dress justice. The possibilities to accessorize this dress are endless.

Well I am officially in my favorite predicament. I have a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. I love my designers but I also love my signature pieces. I have worn the heck out of my favorite Zac Posen for Target red ruffled dress. So alas, I’m contemplating debuting some of my closet favorites that have yet to see the light of day.

For LA Fashion, pretty much anything goes, and that’s my problem! Too many options, too much freedom and my fashion senses just continue to run a muck. I’ve been racking my brain for weeks now and this is what I’ve come up with.

Do I go fancy? If that is the route I go, my choice is my romantic lace turqoise halter cocktail dress. I’d have to wear my hair up to show the stunning detail in the back and I have TO DIE for blue crystal jewelry that would be the perfect accent. Not to mention I’d be able to strut my favorite sparkly Chanel heels on the red carpet.

Chanel heels+ Sparkle+LA Fashion Week= A match made in heaven <3

Chanel heels+ Sparkle+LA Fashion Week= A match made in heaven ❤

Or do I go the fun whimsical route and wear my Free People hot pink endless lace dress. The model on Free People’s web site sports this with an uber awesome large brimmed hat, and that would answer my current root problem. Not to mention, pink is my signature color and my rhinestone incrusted hot pink Manolo Blahnik’s would be a match made in heaven. LA Fashion is all about expressing who you are through fashion. This outfit screams Barbie and have I ever mentioned that’s my nick name? This would definitely be my signature look.

My final option would be to go uber chic with an Alexander Wang goddess type jersey and silk dress. This dress reminds me of a blank canvas. It’s so elegant but the possibilities to accessorize the dress are amazing. I love how this blogger accessorizes hers with large chunky jewelry. The shoes of choice for this dress would be my Sergio Rossi cut out ankle booties.

Gah! Decisions decisions! Whelp friends and fellow fashionistas, help a gal out and help me pick an outfit! The choice will be announced on Wednesday when I recap all the exciting fashions I experienced at the Project Ethos Event.
