Palm Springs Guide to Style

Do you ever find your outfit inspired by your destination? This weekend the wind blew me out to the desert oasis of Palm Springs once again. Fun fact, when I actually had to be out in the desert every day for work obligations, I absolutely hated it. I hated that I had to drive past cows every day. I hated the obnoxious wind. I hated the ungodly heat. I hated the unbearable cold (I know you East Coasters are probably laughing at this but for a So Cal suburban girl that cold is truly terrible. Made me invest in my first actual winter coat though!) But alas, I’ve gotten to know the desert and we have come to an understanding.

I understand now that bright colors are mandatory. And light fabrics during the day are strongly suggested- unless of course you plan on hanging out by the pool all day which if all the Spring Break party goers were any indication, really only a swim suit is required. Also, a large brimmed hat is recommended but please be mindful of the strength of the wind. In some of my photos it looks like I’m intentionally being cutesy with a hand over my hat- that is partially true but honestly in most of those shots I was holding it down out of fear it would be swept away. And chasing after a hat in heels in the sand is not a fun situation.

Second stop of my day trip was the Parker. Recently, I’ve seen some of my favorite bloggers do some shoots here and let’s just say I was sold on a giant orange door with regal gold handles. I was even more delighted to see the door men and bell hops all wear pink! Doors fit for royalty and pink as the dress code? Yes please!

Alas my adventure this weekend also took me back to another Desert X exhibit- “Curves and Zig Zags” by Claudia Comte a beautiful masterpiece once again immersed in the desert landscape. The exhibit features a whimsical zig zag print that was giving me some serious DVF vibes.parker_

A Few of My Favorite Things

The other day my boyfriend and I ventured out on an errand run to Lowes to pick up some odds and ends. As we walked up and I grabbed a cart to place my beloved Olivia in he asked, “Do you ever feel a tad over dressed?” Without hesitation I responded, never. Here’s the thing about being a fashionista, one does not dress to impress the ordinary. Every day is an excuse to look your best and in this triple digit heat the options can become challenging. Since as long as I can remember a summer dress has always been my go to wardrobe staple. So naturally I was delighted when I stumbled upon this cute dress that exuded nautical summer fun.

When you look at something and literally think to yourself, “oo now this is fun!” you naturally have to compliment it with equally fabulous accessories, thus the accent with my favorite bubblegum wedges by Alice and Olivia and multi colored bangles. Designers in their collections always seem to say how they are inspired by the movement and colors of the season. This outfit I’d say is completely and totally inspired by my favorite summer things- cotton candy ice cream,¬†sunshine, ¬†nautical vibes (cause yes that’s totally a thing) and daydreaming of that perfect summer getaway.

Prada Sunnies and Pink Accessories

So this newest update is no longer me being the proud self proclaimed drama queen that I am, it is OFFICIALLY summer! The only difference this means for me really is that I have more to look forward too. More days at Disneyland, more days spent laying on the beach, swimsuit posts, (insert gasp here) the possibilities for true blue (or in my case mostly pink) So. Cal fashion are endless. They say that you can’t wear white after Labor Day, but on this first week of summer I thought what better way to celebrate than in my favorite white ensemble.

Sun dresses are my absolute favorite summer piece. Like I’ve said many times before, I am a girly girl and I live for longer sunnier days when the expectation from a fashion perspective is to wear pretty frilly dresses and embellish with bright floral accessories. So is it a surprise to anyone that Spring and Summer are my favorite seasons? Granted, I can be seen wearing this items all year round but it so much easier to shop for this pieces during this time of the year. Also, confession time, this is the year I usually indulge far too much in accessories. I have a horrible over indulgent problem of when I can’t make up my mind on something not taking one but two. For example, you’ve probably noticed the sunglasses I’m wearing in this post, in other posts but in black. Coco Chanel didn’t decide on just black or white so she opted for both, so why can’t I? I don’t believe in living life with regrets and while I would have regretted having to choose one over the other, I do not regret having two pairs of fabulous and perfect sparkly Prada sunnies.

I'd like to say I can now start wearing all white since it is now officially summer, but let's face it. It's summer almost all year round in so cal. Hence this is my official welcome summer outfit!

Dreaming of Hawaii

My boyfriend hates that I get ready for no reason at all. I guess I’m the one of those girls who “get’s all dressed up with nowhere to go.” But as long as I’m healthy that’s a good enough reason for me to get dressed up for the day! Once again, I learned that from my mama. Even on some of her worse days she still found strength to do her hair and makeup and if it’s one lesson I keep with me always it’s to find the strength to play in makeup even though the world might not get to see.

Hair and makeup are only half the battle though. That’s where I compromise and I “dress down” for a day of lounging around and spending quality time with my hunny. Then I thank the fashion gods for giving us Wildfox. The answer to the girl with nothing to do’s prayers, Wildfox always has cute tee’s and comfy sweaters with fun sayings and pictures of destinations I’d love to adventure off to one day. Today I was clearly dreaming of being in Hawaii. While I love to match things through contrast, today I opted to synchronize my top and bottoms to have them flow effortlessly into one piece. Sadly, this was meant to be a top but being pint size it ended up fitting me more like a dress. However it was far too sheer and a little short in the front, thus I was inspired to go the matching shorts route. Can you tell? Not only is this top the answer to a lazy day’s fashion prayers but it has potential to totally be re-worked as a cover up for my days spent at the beach, which hopefully are only just a few weeks away! Malibu Beach Barbie anyone?
